Yoga Art

I took this book Yoga Art by Ajit Mookerjee out at the library, and it has really inspired me in the past couple of days.

Some of the works in the book date back to the 15th century, yet look like they could have been produced yesterday. The forms are so simple, yet they reference things much greater and complex.

I think this quote kind of sums things up:
"According to yoga, the disciplines of science, metaphysics and philosophy must converge in the artist with a personal mysticism that penetrates the confused surfaces of experience to extract the principle of being."

art show

The Mattson family is going through difficult times due to very serious health issues. Jamie Watson over at Pineappleluv will be collecting artwork for a benefit art show that will benefit the family. The date for this silent auction is still to be determined, but stay tuned as I'm sure there will be tons of good folks who contribute.

Gems

Yesterday we went for a bike ride down to the piers and I spotted some beautiful old wood sitting out by a dumpster. Just couldn't let these gems sit in a landfill somewhere...so excited to put it to good use.

Studio Walls

For the past month SPACE gallery, in Portland, ME invited a group of artists to recreate an area of their studio/work-space within the gallery. The idea grew from the often shrine-like accumulations of visual materials that so often find there way into the studio.

The studio, for me, is where I feel most comfortable-a little nest. When I get home, I poke my head into the studio and make sure everything is ok in there, it's like a child or a dog or something. Anyway, here are some pictures of my studios over the years. home....

Check out Studio Walls at SPACE.

Artists include: Greta Bank, Melinda Barnes, Amy Stacey Curtis, Meggan Gould, Friederike Hamann, Joe Kievitt, Scott Nash, Patrick O’Rorke, and Colin Sullivan-Stevens.
